Creation of a double-curved felt ceiling inside an existing hangar.
The shape is achieved through the natural deformation of a steel mesh suspended at seven points. The mesh consists of cross-braced ribs on a diamond-shaped grid, which offers significantly less membrane stiffness than a triangular-mesh structure. P-Delta analysis to verify that the resulting shape complies with the architect’s design. Final validation using a plastic model weighted with lead to ensure equivalent stiffness.
